Location – Reigate. Permanent Role

Office Attendance - Our roles are hybrid; however, you should be able to travel to the office between 2 and 3 days per week for this position.

We’re looking for a Senior Finance Accountant to join our Insurance Money and Services team.

You’ll be working alongside our wider Finance team and reporting to the Head of Financial Reporting and Control of Tesco Underwriting.

What you’ll be doing

  • Take ownership of the Financial Control Framework
    • Be responsible for First Line of defence for Tesco Underwriting Finance
    • Develop and improve internal financial controls
    • Ensure compliance with ICFR (Internal Controls over Financial Reporting) framework
    • Ensure consistency between ICFR and the company’s Risk Management framework
    • Ongoing updates of finance policies
    • Continuous improvement of processes and controls documentation
     
  • Actively contribute to Stakeholder Engagement:
    • Liaise with actuaries, parent company and external auditors.
    • Collaborate with underwriting & pricing, claims, and actuarial teams to pre-empt financial implications
    • Present financial reporting to senior leadership
  • Team Leadership & People Management:
    • Support the Head of Financial Reporting & Control in managing the reporting team, including day-to-day oversight, coaching, and mentoring
    • Fostering a collaborative, high-performance culture where people feel connected and thrive
    • Act as a role model and technical lead, providing guidance on complex accounting and reporting issues
    • Workload planning and resource allocation to meet tight deadlines across multiple reporting cycles.
  • Statutory and regulatory reporting:
    • Contribute to production and review & challenge of statutory accounts, Solvency UK QRT’s and Solvency and Financial Condition Report
    • Ensure compliance with PRA reporting requirements
  • Financial planning
    • Supporting the commercial finance team to ensure forecasts reflect business drivers and emerging trends.
    • Provide insightful variance analysis and commentary to support decision-making and strategic planning

We need you to have

  • Commercial acumen & knowledge of the General Insurance Market – understanding the business environment and confidence with making sense of complex, high quantity, and sometimes contradictory information to effectively analyse and solve problems
  • Excellent analytical thinking with the ability to interpret financial data and strong attention to detail
  • Excellent verbal and writing communication skills with the ability to present financial information to non-financial stakeholders
  • Confident in engaging with senior leadership, auditors and cross-functional teams
  • Proven ability to lead, mentor, and develop junior finance professionals
  • Proven ability to manage teams and fostering a collaborative, high-performance culture
  • Strong knowledge of IFRS (especially IFRS 17), and Solvency II/Solvency UK
  • Fully qualified accountant with minimum 5 years’ experience

  • Ability to work efficiently within Microsoft Office Applications including advanced Excel to create relevant and effective reports using various data sources, analysing data trends to help guide decision making.
  • Prior exposure to audit or technical accounting in insurance
  • Understanding of Risk and Controls management within a regulated industry and demonstrate ability to deliver customer centric solutions.
  • Proactive in identifying inefficiencies & control weaknesses and implementing process/control improvements
